ABSTRACT
This chapter shows how video can be integrated into a production using Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology. LEDs have allowed scenic, lighting, and video designers to incorporate video elements into all aspects of a live performance in ways previously not possible. The innovations in LED technology have resulted in some exciting lighting fixtures for the entertainment industry. LEDs have many advantages over discharge and incandescent sources. Some of the advantages of LEDs include: long lamp life, economic benefits, low maintenance costs and low energy consumption. Manufacturers of entertainment lighting have lately been focusing on building LED wash fixtures for all of these reasons. Many challenges, specifically brightness, have led to technological advancements in the LEDs themselves as well as optics and microprocessing chips. The result is several types of fixtures that are comparable to traditional lighting fixtures but with added features, including: LED color wash fixtures, and Lo-res graphics LED fixtures.
