ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses some common issues that can arise, with some solutions to help the people when deal with an unruly piece of content or server. The downside of using images at the high-definition (HD) resolutions is that they show a lot more detail than a standard-definition (SD) image, so the source content must be cleaner and without artifacts. An artifact is anything that appears in the video when it is being played back that was not in the source material. Progressive scan video means that every pixel on the screen is refreshed in order, whereas interlaced video is displayed by drawing only a partial image first on alternating lines, then filling in the remaining lines. In order to maintain the correct aspect ratio in the image, it may be necessary to use Letterbox. If a clip appears to skip a frame while playing, this is known as a dropped frame.
