ABSTRACT

A media server usually involves a show controller that triggers the server via one of the following options: Timecode, MIDI Notes, and TouchOSC. Using timecode for show control does not take the place of programming with the server. Then the timecode stamp can be added to the cue directly in the timeline on the server or proprietary application that will allow that cue to be triggered when it reaches the timecode stamped on the cue. Not all professional touring servers have implemented MIDI Notes, but this is becoming more readily available as the popularity of electronic dance music and visual DJ software increases. The visual DJ, or as the industry has renamed it the 'VJ', now has an additional option for a control interface known as TouchOSC. TouchOSC, created by Hexlar, was developed for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.
