ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on some adjustments that can be made from the lighting console that can increase the quality of playback after the content has been loaded on the server. Some of the adjustments that can be made to content include gamma, brightness or black levels, and contrast. Each of these adjustments will increase or decrease the luminance of an image. Video display manufacturers of LED screens, plasma displays, LCD screens, and cathode ray tubes (CRTs) use a measure of luminance called a nit to describe the brightness of their products. Gamma is a color management tool that is used to correct any irregularities in display devices. Brightness refers to the visual perception of luminance in an image. The contrast ratio of an image is the ratio of light to dark in an image. One additional visual effect that can be applied from the lighting console is the alpha channel.
