ABSTRACT

This chapter serves as an introduction to aerodynamics and theory of flight for rotorcraft to underpin the study of autopilots and flight guidance systems. The term ‘rotorcraft’ is used in this book in preference to ‘helicopter’ or ‘rotary wing aircraft’ to be consistent with EASA terminology.‘Rotorcraft’ in EASA terminology means a heavier-than-air aircraft that depends principally for its support in flight on the lift generated by one or more rotors.
