ABSTRACT

Information on the marketing of university outreach programs may seem relatively scarce to those individuals charged with the responsibility for marketing such programs. In fact, they may not know where to turn for marketing information and ideas. Since the marketing of university outreach programs is a relatively narrow marketing topic, it has not been written about as frequently as have more traditional aspects of marketing. The purpose of this chapter is to direct the readers to (a) published and electronic information sources and (b) educational programs or courses which might assist the outreach professional in developing a marketing orientation and marketing strategies. Each of these two categories of information will be dealt with separately in this chapter. With regard to the first category, the authors’ perspective is that libraries are the primary source of published and electronic information. Of course, the academic library comes to mind first, but the quest for such information is not necessarily limited to academic libraries.
