ABSTRACT

Sound recordings archivists cannot always predict patron requests. However, they should anticipate recurring audio needs. This is especially true in respect to annual requests related to religious celebrations, national holidays, or other special occasions. Numerous reports on recordings related to Christmastime are available. However, there are few systematic audio resource listings on events such as graduation day, birthday parties, anniversaries, Valentine’s Day, April Fool’s Day, or even Sweetest Day. Family members, disc jockeys, student council members, department store managers, husbands and wives, flower store owners, candy merchants, and other community members could benefit from knowing about such theme-related songs as “My Funny Valentine,” “Happy, Happy Birthday Baby,” “Sweets for My Sweet,” and “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?”
