ABSTRACT

OCLC, as a membership organization has, since its inception, sought advice from its members, or had advice thrust upon it. Indeed, in the early days of OCLC, user groups sprang up spontaneously. As time passed, OCLC initiated groups to fill needs and gaps. At present, ten advisory committees and many user groups exist. 1 The presence and effect of advisory groups over time was well documented in the beginning of this decade in OCLC's newsletter, with an entire issue focused on the work of these groups. 2
