ABSTRACT

Inferential management extends the decision-making process by providing the capability to predict and achieve predetermined outcomes. This chapter presents the relationships between desired outcomes for the practice, planned goals/objectives, budgeted resources, and inferential management and explains the application of the Inferential Management Model (IMM) to one's practice/organization. The IMM is described and applied at various levels in medical managerial settings. Various applications over the years have demonstrated the utility of the inferential approach. A multifaceted question requires a multifaceted methodological approach to achieve an appropriate solution. The chapter describes desired outcomes for the practice within the strategic plan and budget. Survival in the contemporary practice of medicine will depend upon physicians' ability to adapt to less reimbursement for services provided. To thrive, physicians will need to broaden their base of resources, both financial and programmatic.
