ABSTRACT

The age of Ramses II is already marked by a less sure taste than that of the ages that preceded it. There was also a bracelet in minute particles of metal and enamel, like those of Ahhotpou and the princesses of Dahchour. The best thing in the series was undoubtedly the pair of gold and lapis lazuli bracelets on which may be read the cartouche name Ousimares, Osymandyas of Ramses II. Representations of many similar vases may be seen on the monuments of the Theban Dynasties but the authors await the chance that may give them depths similar to that of Zagazig. Until now the greater part of the goldsmiths work the authors possess was of the Ptolemaic period with certainty to the Pharaonic period that permitted the authors to judge the skill of the Egyptians. The bracelets of Ramses II and the chalice of Taouasrit are Egyptian pure and simple. It was borrowed from arts of Syria or Chaldsea.
