ABSTRACT

Personal information management has become easier and more efficient with the widespread availability of microcomputers and filing software. Microcomputers can be used to easily index and manage such diverse information sources as down-loaded database searches, files of correspondence, patient records, or tissue cultures. The software capabilities of three commercially available software packages are compared with the most desirable filing, indexing, and searching needs of a personal file. Basic concepts of indexing and filing theory are reviewed as they apply to microcomputer filing systems.
