ABSTRACT
There is no question that the full-scale explosion of electronic information sources has complicated the work of collection development librarians. Significant impacts include impacts on materials budgets, patron expectations, libraries technological needs and the knowledge and abilities needed by librarians to perform their jobs effectively in a new kind of library. Both the art and science necessary to perform high quality collection development work have changed because of the impact of new electronic formats being used for delivery of information.
