ABSTRACT

Hana Yori Dango literally means dumplings before flowers or material rewards before recognition. Self-preservation is nature's first law. In certain ways the Japanese, with sayings like though he may have no food to eat, the samurai picks his teeth clean, show a respect for form, ritual, and tradition. Just as community groups stage Red Feather movements and various other campaigns, Japanese companies or factories also advocate various internal movements or campaigns of their own and solicit employee involvement. Some of the internal officers meetings in large companies and many board of directors meetings are cases in point. Even in areas of capital investment involving huge amounts of money, some company executives center their decisions around the concept of balance with ones surroundings, and, as a result, investments are often made which exceed the bounds of necessity. Recently, a number of Japanese companies have adopted a variety of philanthropic activities.
