ABSTRACT

For the closing of a Winter term marked by uncommon activity, steadfast adherence to high artistic aims, and well-deserved prosperity, Mr. [Augustin] Daly last evening put forward on the stage of his theatre a well-arranged version of Shakespeare’s earliest comedy—probably his first play—Love’s Labor’s Lost. The revival of this dainty, whimsical, fantastic work, never hitherto produced by any American manager except Mr. Daly, is intended to last a fortnight only. The actors of Daly’s Theatre will start upon their annual tour of other cities after Saturday, April 11. But the luxury, costliness, and splendor of the production entitle it fairly to a hundred nights’ run, and the refinement and good taste shown in every detail, and the beauty of the rendering of the poetry, ought to be potent enough to make it last a thousand.
