Akeygoalofresearchinthesocialandbehavioralsciencesistheimprovementofpractice.Basicresearchisdesignedtoaddtoanextantknowledge basebyformulating,expanding,orevaluatingatheory,andisvaluedbecauseitisconcernedwiththedevelopmentofknowledge,whichinturncan haveimplicationsforalteringpractice.Appliedresearchisdesignedtofind asolutiontoanimmediateproblem,andisvaluedbecauseitisconcerned withthesolutionofeverydayproblemsthathaveimplicationsforaltering practice.Recently,theextenttowhicheducationalresearchhasinfluenced educationalpracticehasbeenthefocusofprofessionaldiscussions.
