ABSTRACT

China symbolizes the latest example of an economic miracle in the modern era. In fact, no country in modern history has shown such strong economic growth as China during the past two decades. It has outperformed even the most successful postwar leaders in economic growth from among the Far Eastern economies, including Japan and South Korea. China has outperformed all these countries not only in terms of the rate of growth but also in terms of the duration of this phenomenal spurt, one that seems to have no quick end in sight.
