ABSTRACT

Quick service restaurant (QSR) chains in the past decade expanded rapidly and continued to experience healthy increases in sales growth. The enhanced level of competition created by the growth brought about a number of structural and organizational changes. This study investigates the changing role of multi-unit managers as a result of organizational changes, as well as updating information on the position. Ten corporate QSR executives were interviewed. Results reveal the multi-unit manager position has grown in importance. Leadership and organization/time management skills are the biggest challenges faced by individuals during their transitions into the multi-unit manager role.
