ABSTRACT
The iconic Virgin Mary doesn't speak to us as she did to people in the thirteenth century. The swastika does not motivate German youths today as it did in the I 940s. Many observers think our flag, Old Glory, had lost much of its iconic power in the past decade; a national crisis has brought it back. The American landscape is blanketed with "Old Glory".
