ABSTRACT

Information has been incredibly reassuring to the author as she maneuver menopause. She needed to know what was happening to my body, to my heart and to my spirit. Like Mary, she noticed many changes in sexual interest and responsiveness. For instance, she learned that many menopausal women report changes in their sexuality. As estrogen levels decline, there are differences in vaginal lubrication. Although Mary's problem sounds primarily physical, other factors could be affecting her sexuality and should be checked out. Communication between Mary and Sandy is the most effective "treatment" for these problems. Although some medical remedies and treatments are available to assist with the sexual symptoms, nothing is as powerful as talking about what each of them is thinking, feeling, and needing. Once Maureen and the author realized that changes in her sexual responsiveness were normal and natural, they became willing to be creative, inventive, and experimental in lovemaking strategies.
