ABSTRACT

We can catalogue her being: tissue, fiber, bloodstream cell, the shape of her experience to the last moment, skin, hair, try to see what she saw, to imagine each injury she survived. That she lived to an old age. (On all parts of her body we see the years.) By the body of this old woman we are hushed. We are awed. We know that it was in her body that we began. And now we say that it is from her body that we learn. That we see our past. We say from the body of the old woman, we call tell you something of the lives we lived.
