ABSTRACT

Over the past few years, the vast majority of public decision-makers and stakeholders recognize the importance of senior citizens remaining in their present homes and communities for as long as possible. Municipalities are paying more and more attention to the development of innovative initiatives to adapt living environments to the needs of aging persons. The World Health Organization (WHO, 2007) has helped to refocus the best contributions from this series of initiatives by publishing Global Age-Friendly Cities: A Guide (AFC). This guide explains various actions through eight fields 1 within the competence of cities interested in tailoring their infrastructures and services to older adults’ needs.
