ABSTRACT
Developed by Eric Berne in the early 1960s, transactional analysis (TA) is a theory that helps us to understand human communication. Berne was trained in the psychodynamic theory of relationships but was keen to find a model that could be easily explained and easily understood. His great achievement to this end has led to TA being sometimes dismissed as something quite superficial, but at its extended level it is a complex and comprehensive model.
