ABSTRACT

The financial year of the Commonwealth and all States of Australia ends on June 30th. In Great Britain and New Zealand the financial year ends on March 31st. In the United States, the federal fiscal year ends on June 30th; some States have fiscal years ending September 30th or March 31st. This note explains when these arrangements were adopted and why.
