ABSTRACT

Darfur region occupies the western part of Sudan, with international boundaries with Chad, the Central African Republic, and Libya. It is characterized by gently undulating to nearly level uplands 600 m to 900 m above sea level. The topography of the region is interspersed with hills and mountains. Jebel Marra (approx. 3,000 m) constitutes a volcanic mountain range about 115 km long and 45 km wide in the western part of the region, while Jebel Meidob constitutes a distinct volcanic mountain in the north.
