ABSTRACT

The McFarland Institute is operated by Christian Health Ministries whose mission is "to educate ministers and laypersons in the clinical arts of pastoral care and counseling and in the importance of the spiritual dimension of healing". It also promotes physical and spiritual health and wholeness in the community. The Baptists chose to continue a strong ministry to New Orleans through two programs: a private grant-making organization to improve the health of the overall community, and a school for clinical training of ministers. The Board of Trustees of Christian Health Ministries that operates The McFarland Institute is composed of the same individuals serving Baptist Community Ministries-the "parent" company. The Foundation's primary efforts are publicizing The Institute, cultivating prospective donors, encouraging deferred gifts, and conducting an annual fund-raising event known as the "Spring Garden Party". Other duties include working with Trustees in both policy setting and fund-raising activities.
