ABSTRACT

It is a beautiful Sunday afternoon in midsummer. The World's Fair in Seattle had been open officially since early spring and traffic to and from Seattle was rolling in the four directions of the compass. More than a few tourists that summer included a stop in San Francisco on their West Coast vacation itineraries. Those among the summer nomads who were gay or just adventuresome often made their way to the Black Cat Cafe, which by then had a considerable reputation that included one outrageous female impersonator named José Julio Sarria.
