ABSTRACT
“I can't tell you the year, but I have the letter in which I was invited to perform for the American Legion. It was on an anniversary of some sort. And the letter came to me signed by the general. It said that they wanted me to participate in a program in which the leading entertainers of the city would be performing. I thought to myself, ‘My God, the American Legion! A gay performance at the American Legion!’ Right away I phoned Walter Hart at Finnochio's and asked, ‘Did you get an invite?’
