ABSTRACT

The author decided to get himself to a lesbian party in nearby Rancho Santa Fe, a plush area with green hills and beautifully designed family homes. The town prided itself in liberalism so that, if wealthy enough, all kinds of couples were welcome. The party was at Georgia's, a stockbroker whose home was in a little bowl, with eucalyptus and palm trees, and a dirt road to the stable. Georgia and her lover loved horses, and one could visit their thoroughbreds down the road. It was nice for once to be among women, in a party where people wore clothes. The author was an 'absent parent', feeling excluded from his girl's progress into adulthood, unable to influence her. Lesbians knew what it felt like to be a rejected parent, for many would come out after they had babies, and would lose them in the process.
