One o f the first contributions of systems dynamics to understand­ ing organizational learning lies in the way managers’ mental mod­ els might be improved. Recognition of managers’ mental models dates from the beginnings of the systems dynamics field (Forrester, 1961, pp. 49-50):

A mental image or a verbal description in English can form a model of a corporate organization and its processes. The man­ ager deals continuously with these mental and verbal models of the corporation.
