ABSTRACT

Construction documents could now include something you look at on a digital tablet. Back in the day, all drafting was done by hand, using a T-square and triangles, but now computers reign completely. One of the first Computer Aided Drawing/Drafting (CAD) programs was AutoCAD, which is very widely used today. Isometric drawings are easy to draw with a CAD program because all of the vertical lines are vertical, and the horizontal lines all have the same slant to them, most typically 30 degrees. In a perspective drawing, vertical lines farther away from the viewer are shorter, but that does not happen in an isometric drawing where all of the heights are accurate to scale. Vectorworks is a competing CAD program frequently used in the entertainment industry because there is an entertainment specific version called Spotlight. One of the best things about a vector program over a raster program like Photoshop is scalability.
