ABSTRACT

Author begins the remarks with the statement that tools are really just an extension of people own bodies. Undoubtedly, the most commonly used measuring tool is the measuring tape. It's a tool that seems obvious and self-explanatory at first glance, but it is actually much more complex than you might think. Metric wrenches are made in millimeter sizes for metric bolts. The most common type is the c-clamp. These clamps come in many sizes, but the 4 inch variety seems to be the most useful in a theatre shop because the jaw opens wide enough for two 24s and/or anything smaller. Tools powered by compressed air are known as pneumatic tools, they are less well known to the public, but very important in a shop. Modern battery powered drills are almost as powerful as their corded cousins, and the batteries last for hours even under heavy use. Nickel-cadmium and lithium-ion battery technology is what makes the new cordless world spin.
