ABSTRACT

I will detail in this chapter a model of an anger and aggression process. This model is applicable in many situations in which people become angry, including during episodes of domestic violence. There are six phases in this model: activation, modulation, preparation, action, feedback, and deactivation. I will describe them in linear fashion, although in reality they usually overlap considerably. I will also relate these phases to brain activity and suggest interventions at each phase to help angry and aggressive individuals function better (see Figure 7.1: Six phases of an anger episode).
