ABSTRACT
In many ways, issues of the economy parallel the social issues discussed in the previous chapter. There are historical and methodological issues that need to be addressed. In the first instance, there is a question of what kind of history we can write about the economy and whether we can, in fact, write economic history for the Roman Empire.
