ABSTRACT

While the use of video cases is a long-standing tradition, more and more local governments require that teachers analyze video of their own practice in order to obtain and retain professional licensure. In the United States, teachers in New York, Arizona, and California are already expected to meet this standard (Baecher, 2011). The National Board for Professional Teacher Standards (NBPTS), a certification program aimed at recognizing accomplished teachers, requires that “National Board Certified Teachers must demonstrate advanced teaching knowledge, skills, and practices. Completion of National Board Certification signifies that teachers have developed and demonstrated the skills required of an accomplished education professional” (p. 1, https://www.nbpts.org/" xmlns:xlink="https://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">https://www.nbpts.org/). Teachers desiring this advanced certification must include video analysis of their teaching to demonstrate an understanding of how their practice affects student learning.
