ABSTRACT

Usually the inspection provided for in clause 6 will take place shortly before delivery. In most cases the buyer will have already carried out an inspection of the ship in accordance with clause 4(a) or (b). The clause 6 inspection is not a repeat of the buyer’s earlier inspection. Typically the clause 4 inspection will be a superfi cial inspection of the ship by the buyer’s own technical representatives. In contrast the clause 6 regime is concerned with an inspection of the ship’s underwater parts to determine if they are subject to any breakage, damage or defect which affects the ship’s compliance with class requirements.
