ABSTRACT

Education is the main prerequisite for the successful socio-economic integration of immigrants and for their social mobility. For immigrant children and children of immigrants in particular, their participation and attainments in the education system of the country of immigration are key components of their integration into those societies. While in previous decades labor migrants easily found employment as un-and semi-skilled workers, such jobs are now rapidly diminishing and employment increasingly depends on at least medium-range educational qualifications. Thus, the educational attainment of immigrant children at present is an important indicator of how the integration of immigrants will develop in future.
