ABSTRACT

This chapter advocates an end to gender in Utopia, since separation of peoples is the prelude to hierarchical ranking. No gender equality can really exist as long as men and women are put into separate categories. Central to ending gender castes is a new kind of sexuality, one that deemphasizes attractions based on traditional feelings of masculinity and femininity. Utopia will promote attraction to the compassionate person, and the neglected person, thus reinforcing through love and sex the centrality of equality and challenging the dichotomy of masculinity and femininity. New values for attraction will be promoted through the media and other institutions, with attention focused on egalitarian values and those who embody them. Utopia will establish a new equality: Humans should not just have enough to eat; they should experience as much equality of love as possible, with no one garnering significantly more love at the expense of others.
