ABSTRACT

Chapter 15 examines cases in which journalists either quit or were fired because they refused to compromise on matters of conscience and principle. It poses questions for students about how they would act when confronted with a situation that required them to take a stand that might cost them their job, and asks them to consider what might constitute a journalistic crisis of conscience for them. The chapter outlines steps that can help students to develop personal standards that can help protect their journalistic integrity.
