Unilever first topped the Globe Scan-Sustainability Leaders Survey in 2011 and has dominated the top spot since, increasing its margin of leadership each year through 2017. The power of being authentic to the company's heritage and taking on an equally pressing challenge of the day – sustainability – helped drive Unilever's leadership. Two billion people use Unilever products every day. Creating and projecting a cohesive Culture across so many human, brand, and geographic variables is an enormous challenge. One innovative element of the Unilever approach to Collaboration in recent years has been an acceptance that as a leader, there is a responsibility to share learning and knowledge – not just about the processes of embedding sustainability but also on more sustainable technologies. Unilever also worked to co-found the Business and Sustainable Development Commission to promote business involvement in the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development goals.
