ABSTRACT

This chapter provides specific advice on how to improve students' writing style so that students' communication becomes clearer and more effective. Some people say that editing is where writing meets elegance. Making sure that students' own writing adheres to the many features of scientific writing is one of students' main tasks during editing. When editing students' drafts, consider whether all students have written is strictly necessary to convey students message. An effective way of polishing students' text during editing is by eliminating superfluous material that does not add new content or information. List of some abstract nouns often used in scientific academic writing that are actually verbs in disguise and should ideally be replaced by their corresponding verb. Clarity, simplicity, and coherence represent key features of good academic writing. Assess the most pressing stylistic issues of students' writing and edit students' text accordingly.
