ABSTRACT

Transgender and non-binary populations are subject to higher levels of economic disadvantage, criminalization, and victimization than the general population, and the criminal justice system is only just beginning to examine the needs of these groups. This chapter discusses the issues that transgender and non-binary individuals face within the criminal justice system and within society more broadly. In taking steps toward social justice, especially within the field of criminal justice, the needs of these groups must be understood and addressed.
