ABSTRACT

The legislation that has been passed regarding employment equality has provided opportunities for women to attain better paying and higher status positions. However, America has remained rather stagnant in additional progress to ensure equality among employees. Women and minorities still do not earn the same as Caucasian men. While states such as California, New York, Massachusetts, and Maryland have recently begun to implement their own regulations for equality, there is still a wage gap. Educational attainment is a major determinant of how financially successful an individual can become. However, even with equal educational attainment among the genders or races, different negotiating tactics often put women and minorities at a disadvantage to negotiate a higher salary.
