ABSTRACT
Chapter 1 serves as an introduction to the book and describes the Western school model and deals with the following topics: schools and an alienated corporate-consumer culture; loss of spirituality and loneliness; schooling the world: urban-consumerism; technology, spirituality and loneliness; and the global flow of school knowledge.
