ABSTRACT
Chapter 3 focuses on the role of nationalism in the Western school model and discusses the following topics: nationalism: emotional attachments to the nation-state; patriotism and nationalism around the world; nationalism and religion in the United States and Iran; China, nationalism, patriotism and secularism; patriotism, nationalism and the other; pledges of allegiance: immigration, religion and global politics; patriotism in British schools; Singapore education prepares global workers to remain loyal while working in other countries; European Union and the effort to create European nationalism; Hinduism and the Western school model; and nationalism, patriotism, alienation and the global workplace.
