ABSTRACT
In Chapter 5, I discuss the effect on schools of the conservative populist anti-globalization movements, such as the United States’ alt-right, Germany’s AfD and Hindu nationalism. Topics included in the chapter are: enlightened capitalism: the revolt against consumerism and commodification of humans; Brexit and the alt-right; Germany, AfD and teaching German values; Hindi nationalism: Sanskrit and the Veda; anti-globalization and U.S. schools; the alt-right and racism; and the alt-right and the Western school model.
