ABSTRACT

New classroom technology perpetuates the Western school model by preparing students for the technological world of global corporations. Classroom technology invites students to join the ranks of those addicted to smart phones and social media. Corporate interest in expanding the use of classroom technology is exemplified by the Australian Lumineer Academy, a primary school established by Susan Wu. Thus, evaluation systems in technology-oriented classrooms prepare students for a similar process when they are employed. Data collection and classroom technology will ensure that the Western school model is increasingly central to economic and political systems. Schools can collect data on student characteristics and correlate it with workplace success. Schools could identify and try to correct personality traits that could hinder employment success and obedience to government laws. Are Starbucks and/or other corporations good models for classrooms? Corporations often try to create public images of how they help communities. Starbucks projects an image of concern for the environment.
