ABSTRACT

The shining star is an icon of the area, a beloved landmark and a part of the city’s cultural identity and story. The students enrolled in the Dine program have consistently outperformed their mainstream peers in standardized Arizona state testing. Such revitalization efforts not only reconnect children and their families to their language, but also foster curiosity and connection to their cultures. The issues go beyond race and ethnicity and into the world of education and thought itself. A student understands that there are more influences at hand, such as socioeconomic status, exposure to mass media trends/current events, and much more play their role in educational outcomes. In Native Societies, two minds of human experience are typically given more balanced regard. To a certain extent it is part of life, and that will never go away completely even if some of us experience more dissonance than others.
