ABSTRACT

School magazines often provide some clues about the sporting activities of the schools which publish them. In La Farga, the magazine of the Menendez Pidal school at Salt, results frequently appear of weekly or fortnightly games of football, handball and basketball at various levels against other schools. Feder, published by the Zewen Hauptschule, Trier, reports both internal tournaments and occasional inter-school championships in football, swimming and athletics. The Zewen school at Trier apparently does something in the way of concerts and plays, mainly as a part of its 'AG' Arbeitsgemeinschaff programme. This school also, as already mentioned, has a fair amount of sport taking place. The object of the Foyer is there stated to be 'the promotion, co-ordination and encouragement of all the school's extra-scholastic activities–intellectual, social, sporting or outdoor'. In a rather different category are the special schools set up all over France, to which whole classes go for a week or two at a time with their teacher.
