ABSTRACT

The changeable shapes of a city are generated from the “focal points” of its occupation pattern and are transformed in accordance with the mode of transport used, as well as the time of day and day of the week that the city’s facilities are occupied and used. The main objective is to find a new way of understanding the urban organism, showing how its edges vary depending on the mode of transport and hour of the day, for each of a number of different ways in which the city can be “used”. The need to invest resources in improving public transport systems stands out even more starkly when we analyse the accessibility isochrones for stadiums, those pagan temples for sporting events. The industry must raise its game significantly, and as soon as possible; perhaps by offering public transport arrangements that combine high speeds on long journeys with the ability to serve all different parts of town with the same effectiveness.
