ABSTRACT

The General Planning Commission has been responsible since 1946 for a succession of economic plans designed to improve the performance of the country. Since 1951 there has operated also a tributary commission for planning the development of France's education services. Within the framework of the kind of thinking and of the nation's general plan, the education commission had to foresee its own investment needs, administrative measures and recruitment of personnel. The budget of the Ministry of National Education is not the only source of financial support for educational work in France. But the growth of the budget of the Ministry of National Education is indicative of the expansion that has taken place. Pressure to reform the administration is beginning to come from parents too. The President of the Association of Parents of pupils in public schools said in a press interview in October 1969 that an essential reform was related to the administrative methods of the service.
